Bender Hill Maple BBB Business Review

A Taste of Family Heritage:

Bender Hill Maple's Time-Honored Tradition

With deep roots in charming Upstate New York, Bender Hill Maple produces the finest maple syrup – a sweet taste of heritage that began over 5 generations ago. Our journey begins with celebrating the age-old art of maple sugaring, a craft passed down through the hands of our ancestor, Arthur Bishop. Arthur would begin his annual labor while the earth lay frozen beneath its wintry cover. His cold, weathered hands wielding a time-honored tapping tool, worked with both speed and precision. Arthur selected the finest maple trees to bear the weight of hanging buckets, and as the sap flowed, he tended to each tree like an old friend, collecting the clear liquid with a sense of reverence for nature's beautiful gift. A symphony of crackling fires and fragrant steam emanated from his rustic sugarhouse, where he carefully boiled the sap, nurturing its transformation into a golden nectar that embodied the very essence of his land and toil. Arthur, keeper of tradition, shared the sweet rewards of his labor with a community that cherished the fruits of his dedication. Today, in the early weeks of spring when the sap beings to flow, we carry his legacy forward.

With each passing season, we continue to embrace the rhythm of nature. As winter's chill gives way to spring's embrace, our family taps the maple trees, allowing the crystal-clear sap to flow. It's a delicate dance, one that requires patience and precision, as we gather the sap drop by drop. The heart of our operation lies around our wood fired evaporator, the place where the magic of unfolds. Here, the sap is carefully boiled down in small batches, allowing it to gradually transform into the rich, golden maple syrup that has become our legacy. The aroma that fills the air is a testament to the artistry that goes into every batch, a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation. The air is thick with the sweet scent of tradition. It's here that the sap, drawn from the very trees that have stood as silent witnesses to countless family gatherings, begins its magical transformation. With patience and care, we stoke the fires that have warmed the souls of those who came before us.

Generations of laughter, stories, and shared moments have poured themselves into every drop. Our tale began ages ago when the first tree was tapped by weathered hands that carried the wisdom of seasons past. A hushed secret whispered through the family, passed down like a treasured heirloom – the art of maple sugaring.

But our journey isn't just about the syrup. It's about mornings spent gathering buckets, cold hands and hearts warm. It's about the laughter echoing through the woods as we work side by side, sharing tales and dreams. It's about the satisfaction that comes from knowing we're nurturing a legacy that's greater than ourselves – a legacy that beckons us to honor the earth, the past, and the future.

When you savor a taste of Bender Hill Maple, you're not just enjoying a product; you're becoming part of our story. You're joining hands with those who tended the trees, stoked the fires, and poured their love into every step of this timeless journey. So, welcome to our table, we hope you will come again.

With gratitude and a warm embrace,

The Bender Hill Family

I Never knew my mom’s papa…

He passed away when I think she was only 2 years old. But I do know amongst other things my Grandpa Arthur was a farmer and Sugarmaker. And that is great new for me.

He was born in Gilbertsville NY on July 29th 1880; Aurthur George Bishop. He lived they I believe his whole life until he passed away May 14th of 1943.

I knew I must have caught this bug from somebody, well now we all know who’s fault it is.

The list on the left is one of the auction pages that my Grandmother’s (Grace) had on a Saturday in June in Gloversville NY.

New sap buckets @ 26 cents a piece.

Old sap buckets @ 12 cents apiece.

Maple syrup for a dollar a quart.

Syrup pans, sap spiles, bucket covers and so on.

A lot has changed in the sugarmaker’s world, tubing, reverse osmosis, steam boiling rigs, high vacuum; but in light of all that the passion of the Sugarmaker still burns bright within. To make one of the purest products ever, with unwavering quality for the best maple syrup and maple syrup products that my grandpa would be proud of. Sugarmaking is a legacy, a tradition, a romance if you will. Within the crazy world and times we live in… It is wholesome, good, it brings family together. From the backyard cement block arches, to the oil burning rigs, the common cause is a Wonderfull all natural product that so many folks enjoy.
